The heat treatment
of springs falls into four processes in two categories of material selection.
The appropriate spring strength and ductility properties can be achieved
with alloy steel heat treated in either oil quench harden
and temper furnaces or in salt quench austemper furnaces.
The same properties can be achieved with 400 series stainless steel bright
hardened in hydrogen atmosphere continuous belt furnaces for small parts and
in vacuum furnaces for large parts.
