Induction hardening processes are similar to flame
hardening, but with a greater amount of control over the hardening boundary and
depth. Induction hardening utilizes
a high frequency magnetic field, shaped by a precision coil, to produce the
exact heating pattern desired on the part.
Because of its capacity for control and variation, induction processes
may be applied to a somewhat greater range of gears, bearings,
and machined parts than flame hardening.
